Angkor Wat, one of the most iconic monuments in Cambodia and the world, was originally constructed in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II of the Khmer Empire. Initially dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, it later became a Buddhist temple. The temple complex is the largest religious monument in the world, covering over 162 hectares.
